Taking a Break….For the Best of Reasons

We would to thank all our authors and readers for being a part of Words on the Outside. It has been a tremendous amount of fun and we may return to it sometime down the road. But, for now, we’re going on walkabout. It’s time for us to experience day long periods of non-scheduled time, and to show our children the virtue of rest and the absolute base-level need that is fun.

To anyone else out there who might be finding themselves in a similar place, I invite you to join us on this journey back to free time and me time and us time.  None of us are guaranteed a day and, for us, someday starts now. We’re going to spend more time snuggled up on the couch, fishing on weekends, and playing cards with our kids. It has been the honor of a lifetime to speak with so many wonderful authors. They are a big part of why we’re making this change. The ways in which wordsmiths paint the world suggest a first-person experience we’ve been having solely in the third-person. For us, it’s time to step away from the keyboard…

All the best,

The Bynums

New York Times Bestseller Tom Angleberger reads from his version of Star Wars Episode VI, Return of the Jedi: Beware the Power of the Dark Side.

Today’s reading is provided by Tom Angleberger, childrens’ and young adult author, origamist, and Star Wars-true believer.  Some time back, Tom was approached by LucasFilm to write his version of a Star Wars movie and, as luck would have it, they were both thinking Return of the Jedi. Tom composed the literary version of this story with not only enormous amounts of fun, but also with painstaking detail and faithfulness to George Lucas’ original vision from 1983.

Enjoy Tom Angleberger reading from his version of Star Wars Episode VI titled Return of the Jedi: Beware the Power of the Dark Side.
(We’re sending a shout out to Laini Bostian for assistance in getting Tom on our show – many thanks!)

National Book Award Winner, Julia Glass, Reads, ‘Letter to a Stranger, Florence, Italy’

Today’s reading is something delightfully different, and can be found in the inaugural issue of Off Assignment, a brand new magazine and website whose goal is to provide readers ‘the gritty stories behind glossy travel magazines’.

Julia was one of a select group of writers asked to pen a letter to someone from travels past; a fresh acquaintance, with whom they’d experienced something unique and memorable.

Enjoy Julia’s contribution to this exciting new endeavor, Letter to a Stranger, Florence Italy.
